The Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) has launched a hepatitis C treatment program aimed at delivering accessible and effective care to individuals in mid-Michigan. This program provides comprehensive care, including medication, monitoring, and support services, to help patients manage their condition effectively.

According to Connie Lance, the CMDHD community health supervisor, hepatitis C is a growing burden in Michigan, with an estimated 200,000 cases statewide. However, Lance reassures that hepatitis C is curable if detected early and treated promptly. Treatment can prevent liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.

Healthcare providers can refer patients to the program or individuals can self-refer by visiting the CMDHD website. For those without insurance coverage, the CMDHD offers resources to assist with the cost of treatment. Additionally, the program bills insurance for those who are covered. The CMDHD also provides testing for hepatitis C for individuals who are uncertain of their status. To schedule a testing appointment, individuals can contact the CMDHD Community Health division at 989-314-7570.

Overall, this treatment program aims to provide accessible and effective care to individuals living with hepatitis C in mid-Michigan while preventing complications associated with untreated hepatitis C infection.
