Loma Linda University has recently introduced an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Health Sciences degree program. This two-year college degree is designed to provide students with a strong foundation for their future education, preparing them for entry into various bachelor’s degree programs across the university’s eight schools.

The program consists of general education courses, such as English, history, humanities, psychology, along with a first-year skills seminar focused on college education. Additionally, core healthcare science courses like anatomy and physiology, college algebra, chemistry, and micro-biology are part of the curriculum. The A.S. degree also incorporates courses on religion, such as Introduction to the Bible, as well as Whole Person Care.

Program director Gurinder Bains, MD, PhD explained that the program is designed to be completed in 18 months and provides an in-person learning experience. “We aim to welcome first-time, full-time freshmen and offer them a strong foundation for their future education,” said Bains. “This program provides an opportunity for young adults to begin their healthcare journey at Loma Linda University and potentially complete their education here as well.”

The A.S. degree includes a seminar on college skills and service-learning opportunities to assist students both in and out of the classroom. Career advisors are available at the university to help students navigate their options after completing the program. Bains emphasized that “Our goal is to support students on their healthcare journey and ensure their success every step of the way.” For more information about the degree program, visit the university’s website.
