Recently, Canada selected its freestyle U23 and Senior World teams during a tournament held in Calgary, Alberta on May 25-26. The under-23 division included all 10 weight classes for men’s and women’s freestyle, while the Senior division included the four World weights not contested at the Olympics.

One of the standout wrestlers who made it to the U23 World team was Lachlan McNeil, a two-time All-American for North Carolina. Representing Simon Fraser, an NCAA Division II program in Burnaby, British Columbia were two wrestlers who won the tournament: Victoria Seal made the U23 Team and Karla Godinez Gonzalez made the Senior team both at 55 kilograms.

The U23 World Championships are set for October 21-27 and the Senior World Championships for Non-Olympic weights are scheduled for October 28-31, both in Tirana, Albania. The full results and brackets can be found by clicking on the link provided.

On the U23 women’s freestyle team, some notable members include Kelyn Young at 50 kg, Serena Di Benedetto at 53 kg, and Mia Friesen at 57 kg.
