In recent years, the Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board has made significant changes to the school realignments for spring sports in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. These adjustments have marked the beginning of a new era for several Montgomery area teams, signaling an exciting time ahead for fans of local sports.

Saint James, which produced four individual girl state champions this season, will move up to Class 4A-5A. Meanwhile, Alabama Christian, previously in Class 4A-5A, will move down to Class 1A-3A. Tennis powerhouses Trinity and Montgomery Academy will remain in their current classifications. Trinity’s James Treadwell is set to return after his successful season, while Gabby Barrera from Montgomery Academy is also returning as the Class 7A singles champion.
In soccer, Saint James soccer has been promoted to Class 4A, while Montgomery Academy is moving to Class 7A. After securing their first-ever Class 3A title and having a record-breaking girls soccer season, Saint James will now compete alongside neighboring rivals Trinity, Montgomery Catholic, and LAMP. Meanwhile, Montgomery Academy’s move to Class 7A signals an exciting new chapter following their success in Class 6A.
In track and field, Trinity and Montgomery Academy will stay in Class 3A. These two programs were the only ones in the area to have individual title winners at the state meet. Trinity baseball will continue to compete in Class 4A and recently promoted assistant coach Chad Mansmann as their new head coach following the retirement of hall of fame coach Ken Whittle.
