On Monday, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that the New England Patriots have decided to waive third-year offensive lineman Andrew Stueber. Despite being drafted in the seventh round and playing offensive tackle during his time at Michigan, Stueber has been taking reps at the guard position during OTAs. However, with competition from players like Sidy Sow, Atonio Mafi, Nick Leverett, and Michael Jordan, securing a spot on the roster proved difficult for him.
Unfortunately, Stueber’s chances of making the roster were slim. He struggled to make an impact early on due to a hamstring injury in his rookie season and spent the 2023 season on the practice squad. Even when the team needed help at tackle, Stueber was not able to solidify his place on the roster.
In recent news, the Patriots drafted Layden Robinson in the 2024 NFL draft. With this addition to their roster, it became clear that there was no room for Stueber on the team.
Ultimately, this led to the Patriots making the decision to waive him. While Stueber may have had some potential as an offensive lineman, he was unable to realize it with the team he was with. It is unfortunate that he had to be let go but hopefully he will find a new opportunity where he can flourish as a player.
