Florida Community Care, Humana Medical Plan, Simply Healthcare Plans, South Florida Community Care Network (doing business as Community Care Plan), and Sunshine State Health Plan have been awarded contracts by the Agency for Health Care Administration to participate in the Medicaid managed-care program. These contracts will involve billions of dollars over the coming years, with 3.45 million people currently receiving health care through the managed-care system as of February.

Humana, Simply Healthcare, and Sunshine State Health Plan will receive statewide contracts, while the other two plans will receive contracts in specific regions of the state. The contracting process has taken the past year, with 11 plans responding to an “invitation to negotiate” to secure contracts. Plans that were not selected can file challenges to the decision. The agency is required to go through a procurement process for these contracts every six years.
