Lakers coach JJ Redick is set to add two former NBA head coaches to his staff, including Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks. Sources familiar with the situation confirm that both McMillan and Brooks will be joining Redick as assistant coaches.

The Lakers were specifically looking for experienced head coaches to work alongside Redick, and with the addition of Brooks and McMillan, they bring a combined 2,363 games of head coaching experience to the team. Brooks is known for his time coaching the Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards, where he helped develop stars like Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden.

McMillan has had stints as head coach for various NBA teams, including the Seattle SuperSonics, Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, and Atlanta Hawks. With a wealth of coaching experience, both McMillan and Brooks bring valuable knowledge to the Lakers coaching staff.

The Lakers are still in the process of finalizing the rest of Redick’s coaching staff, including another front-of-bench assistant. Some within the organization are looking to model the staffing structure after the successful 2019-20 coaching staff that featured coaches like Jason Kidd and Lionel Hollins working under head coach Frank Vogel.
