Tauana McDonald is set to become the first Black woman to run any central Ohio hospital system as she takes on the role of Chief Executive Officer at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio. McDonald has been with Trinity Health, Mount Carmel’s parent company, for over 20 years and her background within the organization gives her a deep understanding of its inner workings.

Originally from Cincinnati, McDonald had a clear passion for healthcare from a young age. Her educational journey took her to Stanford for undergraduate studies, IBM for work experience, and the University of Michigan for a masters degree in Health Services Administration. Following her education, McDonald worked for IBM and later moved on to consulting before taking time off to raise her children.

Returning to the workforce when her youngest child started preschool, McDonald found an opportunity at Trinity that aligned with her career goals. As she prepares to take on the role of CEO, she acknowledges the significance of being a Black woman in a leadership position, particularly in the healthcare industry. She believes that her diverse life experiences bring a unique perspective to her role and will allow her to contribute to providing equitable healthcare for all individuals.
