William Vass has been named as the new Chief Technology Officer at Booz Allen Hamilton, the consulting firm announced. He will begin his new role next week and takes over from Susan Penfield, who is retiring in July after 30 years with the company.

Prior to his time at Booz Allen, Vass served as Vice President of Engineering at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he led software and hardware development for emerging technology services for a decade. With over 40 years of experience, Vass has worked on innovations such as large-scale cloud, digital twins, 3D-processing extended reality, geospatial, and high-performance computing.

As the CTO at Booz Allen, Vass will focus on the company’s artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software engineering and data analytics capabilities as part of its Velocity Leadership Technology (VoLT) strategy. With his extensive experience in both start-ups and Fortune 100 companies, Vass is well positioned to lead the company’s technology efforts going forward.
