For years, garden enthusiasts in Robbinsdale have struggled to find shopping options for their gardening needs. That all changed this spring with the opening of the Birdtown Backyard garden center at Welna Ace Hardware.
The Birdtown Backyard was previously used to store lawnmowers and snowblowers, but Welna Ace Hardware took over the space two years ago after purchasing it from Robbinsdale Marine, a small engine repair shop. The hardware store’s manager, Bryan Dawson, mentioned that renovating the space required a lot of effort, as it had been filled with motor oil and gasoline from years of use.
Phase one of the Birdtown Backyard focused on stocking the area with grilling supplies, patio furniture, and pet food. Phase two, launched earlier this year, saw the expansion of the garden center to include a wide variety of plants, flowers, tools, and other gardening essentials. The community is now able to access these products without having to travel outside of Robbinsdale.
Customers like Alicia Losier from Minneapolis have been impressed with the new garden center. She no longer has to spend hours driving around looking for what she needs for her gardening projects. The positive reception has led to record-breaking days at the Birdtown Backyard.
During the winter months, the garden center space will be repurposed as a lot for Christmas trees. This transformation has brought new life to the Robbinsdale community by offering a convenient and diverse shopping option for garden lovers.
