Katie Wilkinson, a prolific striker with an impressive goalscoring record, has joined Rangers after spending two successful years with Southampton in England’s second tier. The 29-year-old forward signed a two-year deal with the Scottish Premiership club after being the top scorer for Southampton last season, scoring 10 goals in 22 appearances and earning a nomination for English Championship player of the season.

Wilkinson is not the only new arrival at Rangers this summer – Northern Ireland defender Lauren Rafferty also made the move to the club. Wilkinson has had an illustrious career so far, making her WSL debut at the age of 17 for Birmingham City before playing for Aston Villa, London Bees, Sheffield United, where she won the Championship’s player of the season and Golden Boot two years in a row, and Coventry. In total, she has scored 80 goals in 172 games.

In an interview with Rangers’ media, Wilkinson expressed her excitement about joining the team and the ambitious goals they have set. “I am really excited to be here at Rangers and to help contribute to their success,” said Wilkinson. “I want to win games, leagues, and trophies with this team.” Head coach Jo Potter also welcomed Wilkinson to the team, highlighting her impressive goalscoring record throughout her career and her dedication to improving as a player. Potter had previously worked with Wilkinson at Coventry and is thrilled to have her on board at Rangers.

Rangers are currently leading their rivals Celtic in Scotland’s Premiership title race by three points after eight rounds of play. With Wilkinson’s addition to their attacking lineup alongside strikers Alfredo Morelos and Steven Gerrard Jr., they are well positioned to continue their push towards winning silverware this season.
