In July, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will be shutting down and replaced by two new agencies. The Department of Public Health (DPH) will oversee DHEC’s public health and healthcare quality programs, while the Department of Environmental Services (DES) will be in charge of air quality, coastal management, land, and waste management.

On Monday morning, DPH Director Dr. Edward Simmer will hold a press conference to announce the launch of the Department of Public Health and explain the implications of the DHEC split. The event will take place at the Mills-Jarret Building at 2100 Bull Street at 9 a.m. and will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.
