Los Angeles will host the Paralympics for the third time in 2028. The organisers of the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics are eager to add Para-climbing to the programme, making its debut on the Paralympic stage. If approved by the IPC governing board on June 26th, this will provide more athletes with an opportunity to compete on the world’s biggest stage.

Surfers were disappointed that Para-surfing would not be added to the 2028 programme, but International Surfing Association president Fernando Aguerre remained optimistic. He stated that they will continue to strive for inclusion and opportunities for surfers. As surfers, they are accustomed to missing a wave, but they are determined to paddle just as hard for the next one.

Janet Evans, chief athlete officer for Los Angeles 2028, expressed gratitude to the International Paralympic Committee for considering the addition of Para-climbing in 2028. This move aligns with LA28’s commitment to elevating the Paralympic movement and creating an expansive and elite adaptive sport program.
