The Asia Pacific Health Security Action Framework (APHSAF), which was endorsed by Member States in 2023, aims to address the need for health systems and services that are well-prepared, resilient, and capable of responding to health security threats, including pandemics. This framework is designed to engage a variety of actors in the health security sector and to address the complex nature of both current and future public health emergencies.

The APHSAF includes six interconnected domains of work that span various sectors, creating a comprehensive and multi-hazard health security system. It emphasizes the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health in addressing health security threats. By adopting this framework, countries can work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and universal health coverage while meeting the requirements of the International Health Regulations (2005).

The APHSAF seeks to ensure that health systems in the Asia Pacific region are better equipped to respond to public health emergencies by promoting collaboration and coordination among different sectors and stakeholders. It highlights the importance of preparedness, resilience, and readiness in the face of health security threats. Ultimately, it aims to enhance health security in the region.
