The Nathaniel MG Cup will feature four Championship clubs in the upcoming 2024-25 season, including Cardiff City and Swansea City. Additionally, wildcard entries Newport County and Merthyr Town will join the competition along with 44 Cymru League clubs.

In the previous season, Swansea City’s under-21 team made it to the final, defeating Cardiff’s under-21s in the third round. However, they were ultimately beaten by The New Saints in the final match.

The New Saints emerged victorious in a 5-1 win over Swansea City Under-21s in the previous season’s Nathaniel MG Cup final. This result saw them lift the trophy as champions.

League Two Newport County will be making a return to the cup competition after last receiving a wildcard entry in the 2021-22 season. Additionally, Southern League Premier South club Merthyr Town will be participating for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
