NASCAR penalized JR Motorsports’ No. 1 team after last weekend’s race at Darlington for violating a rule that mandates re-certification of any chassis that has been repaired, modified or changed. The penalty resulted in a 10-point deduction for Sam Mayer and a suspension of crew chief Mardy Lindley for the Xfinity race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 25. Mayer, who has won this season, dropped from 11th to 12th in the standings.
NBC announced that Jimmie Johnson will be part of their Indy 500 broadcast and will cover select NASCAR Cup races this season. Additionally, NASCAR took four Xfinity cars, including the No. 1 Chevrolet, to the R&D Center for further inspection after the race. While there were no issues with the No. 00 Ford of Stewart-Haas Racing, the No. 20 Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing, and the No. 21 Chevrolet of Richard Childress Racing.
In other news, NASCAR penalized two Craftsman Truck Series teams for violating Sections 14.3.1.2 A & B & C & D related to Crew Protective Clothing/Equipment specifically pertaining to Marcus Horton and Jerick Newsome from ThorSport Racing and Rev Racing respectively received a one-race penalty each
