NASA’s Transform to Open Science (TOPS) initiative is on a mission to promote a culture of open science across agencies, organizations, and communities. The primary objective of TOPS is to create an inclusive environment where scientists and researchers are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to embrace open science practices.

As part of a 5-year program, TOPS has developed an open science curriculum that will be implemented by a team of TOPS Champions at selected NASA Centers. These Champions, including Pontus Olofsson from ST11 at MSFC, have been tasked with teaching the open science curriculum at various venues such as Centers, conferences, and science meetings.

Pontus Olofsson recently conducted the first module of the open science curriculum at MSFC on 2/21/24, marking the inaugural instructor-led TOPS workshop at the Center. By training scientists and researchers in open science principles, TOPS aims to foster collaboration, transparency, and innovation within the scientific community. The initiative is a significant step towards promoting accessibility and accountability in research practices, ultimately advancing the progress of science and technology.

Through the efforts of TOPS Champions like Pontus Olofsson, NASA is leading the way in embracing open science and shaping the future of scientific exploration.
