NASA engineers have been facing an extremely stressful seven months as they tried to communicate with the Voyager 1 spacecraft, which was unable to send back proper data. Despite the challenges, there is good news as NASA has finally started receiving science data from the interstellar-based spacecraft once again. However, it is uncertain how long the spacecraft will continue to operate at its current capacity.

The problems with Voyager 1 began last year when communication with the spacecraft started returning garbled data. Engineers were faced with the difficult task of finding a solution due to the vast distance between the probe and Earth. It took almost two days for each attempt to fix the probe, adding to the stress. In December, another glitch left engineers puzzled and there were concerns that Voyager 1 might be lost forever in February. Fortunately, NASA managed to restore communication with the spacecraft, but it still needed to get the science instruments working again.

The latest update reveals that Voyager 1 has resumed conducting normal science operations, with all four science instruments onboard returning usable data. This is a major victory for NASA and scientists around the world who have been waiting for this moment. However, despite this success, there are concerns about how long both Voyager 1 and its twin Voyager 2 can continue to operate, as they are already well beyond their intended service life. These space probes are icons of human ingenuity and space exploration, and their potential loss would be a sad day for humankind.
