On Saturday, June 1, some Naf Naf women’s ready-to-wear stores in France experienced a strike affecting 23 out of 111 total stores. The Parisian boutique on rue de Rivoli and stores in Caen, Thionville, Grenoble, and Cannes were among those closed. The strike was initiated by the South union, a minority union within the company, just days before a hearing at the Bobigny commercial court to examine takeover offers for Naf Naf, which was placed in receivership in September.
Three takeover offers are being considered, with one from Turkish textile industrialist Migiboy Tekstil being described as offering a “significant recovery”. The South union claims that employees do not support this offer and do not want to be taken back if it means potential future closures. The CFDT union, despite being the majority union, did not call for the strike.
Employees expressed weariness with the ongoing challenges faced by Naf Naf, including recent social plans and restructuring measures that have resulted in store closures and layoffs. The potential buyer, Migiboy Tekstil, is seen as a potential opportunity for the brand to find stability and offer a broader range of products to customers.
