In North Dakota, health officials are urging residents to be cautious about certain recalled mushroom edibles that may have caused a death in the state. On June 28, the Prophet Premium Blends Diamond Shruumz products were recalled and it is advised not to consume, sell or serve these items. These products include chocolate bars, cones, gummies and related items that may still be available online or at retailers that sell hemp-derived, smoking and vaping products.

The North Dakota Health and Human Services along with the poison control center are conducting an investigation into the death that may have been linked to Diamond Shruumz products. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is also involved in these investigations alongside other state partners. It has been discovered that the recalled products contain muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the genus Amanita, which could cause symptoms experienced by those who fell ill after consuming Diamond Shruumz products.

According to the FDA, as of July 2nd there have been 48 illnesses reported in 24 states related to these products, with 46 people seeking medical care and 27 being hospitalized. Symptoms include seizures, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, abnormal heart rates
