Muscle Shoals, Alabama is excited to announce a $65 million project to build a new sports and entertainment complex. The complex will be located on 66 acres at Sportsplex Drive near U.S. 72 and U.S. 43, on the site of current city-owned ball fields. The project aims to provide a hub for sports, music, and entertainment tourism in the area.
Mayor Mike Lockhart expressed excitement about the project, stating that it will transform the local sports, recreation, and cultural scene. The complex will feature youth baseball and softball fields, tennis and pickleball courts, soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts.
The amphitheater will have seating for 1,000 people, providing a venue for outdoor events and concerts. In addition to the sports facilities, the complex will include an event center with space for basketball and volleyball courts, trade shows, and conferences.
A privately funded retail area will also be part of the development, featuring restaurants and lodging options. The city plans to finance the sports facility through bonds, with revenue generated from taxes from the adjoining private retail development.
Lockhart emphasized that this project will not impact the current general budget of the city. He described the complex as a place for athletes, music enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a vibrant space to connect with others. The project is expected to create over 150 jobs in construction alone and generate significant tax revenue for Muscle Shoals’ economy.
