Andy Murray is a three-time Grand Slam champion who faced American Marcos Giron in the first round of the Stuttgart Open this year. In his 999th singles match, Murray was defeated 6-3, 6-4, marking his first loss of the grass-court season. The 37-year-old Murray is gearing up for what he believes will be his final Wimbledon tournament as he has stated that he does not plan on playing much beyond the summer.

Murray and Giron played a tough match, with Murray saving break points in his first service game but failing to capitalize on an early opportunity to break himself. Giron, ranked number 54 in the world, took advantage of the situation by breaking Murray’s serve and winning the opening set comfortably. Despite fighting back in the second set, holding to love in the first game and getting break points on Giron’s serve, Murray was unable to convert them. Giron then broke Murray’s serve again and maintained his lead throughout the set.

Giron will now face another Briton, sixth seed Jack Draper, in the second round at the Stuttgart Open on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Murray is looking ahead to preparing for Wimbledon by participating in the Cinch Championships at Queen’s next week. He will also team up with his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles event at Wimbledon, marking their first Grand Slam appearance as a pair. Jamie recently mentioned that it was “now or never” for the brothers to play together at Wimbledon. The prestigious tournament is set to begin on July 1st.
