Mueller Steam Specialty, a Watts brand, is now offering new differential pressure monitoring technology that comes standard on its duplex strainers and is optional on its wye strainers. This technology helps facility engineers detect when strainer maintenance is necessary, preventing costly production downtime.

With the purchase and activation of an add-on connection kit, pressure sensors at the inlet and outlet of the strainer monitor the pressure drop that occurs over time as a strainer screen becomes clogged with foreign particles. Alerts are triggered through an existing BMS connection or cellular gateway when the strainer basket reaches 75% and 100% full. These sensors do not impact the operation or performance of the strainers and comply with all necessary certifications.

Jennifer Carlino, Sr. Product Manager at Mueller Steam Specialty, notes that this new technology allows facility engineers to proactively maintain their strainers, protecting costly equipment from damage and ensuring consistent flow and efficient system performance. The addition of strainer monitoring technology will enable facility engineers to take a proactive approach to maintenance, rather than reacting to issues as they arise. This will ultimately lead to cost savings, improved equipment longevity, and more reliable system performance.
