On Tuesday, June 11, the beloved wild horse Junior passed away at his home in Corolla, North Carolina. This decision was made by staff with the Corolla Wild Horse Fund after Junior had a second colic surgery in February of this year. Despite recovering from his surgery and spending five happy months on the farm, Junior fell ill again on Tuesday.

Junior was a well-known lead stallion on the beach and part of the “blonde harem” that lived around Penny’s Hill. His father, Amadeo, passed away in 2020 and his mother, Blossom, still resides on the farm. Junior was in his 20s when he passed away, having been rescued in 2021 after almost choking on an apple.

The staff at the Corolla Wild Horse Fund released a statement expressing their sadness over Junior’s passing. They described him as kind, sensible, respectful, and well-mannered but also stubborn, inheriting traits from his parents that made him even more lovable. Junior was able to pass away peacefully at home under a pine tree where he often grazed.

The Corolla Wild Horse Fund encourages people to share their favorite memories and stories of Junior on their Facebook page. For more information about the Wild Horses, visit their website. Junior will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
