Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Mookie Betts was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Royals after being hit on the hand by a 98 mph fastball. The incident occurred in the bottom of the seventh inning with the Dodgers leading 3-0. With one man on and a 1-2 count, Royals reliever Dan Altavilla threw a fastball inside that struck Betts in his left hand. Betts fell to the ground in pain and had to exit the game.

Betts has been an integral part of the Dodgers’ success this season, boasting impressive numbers with a .307 batting average, .407 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, 40 RBI, and nine stolen bases in 71 games. As a former MVP and seven-time All-Star, he is considered one of the best players in baseball today. His departure from Sunday’s game was concerning for fans and teammates alike as it could potentially impact their chances of winning.

Meanwhile, shortstop Miguel Rojas took over at first base and replaced Betts on defense. Rojas has been playing well this season, hitting .284 with four home runs and nine RBI in 66 games. He was able to hold down first base until the end of the game when Altavilla got Shohei Ohtani to line out, securing a 3-0 victory for the Royals.

The Dodgers also faced injury woes on Sunday as rookie starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto was placed on the injured list due to a triceps injury. Yamamoto exited Saturday’s game against the Royals after just two innings and is set to undergo further testing to determine the extent of his injury. The loss of both Betts and Yamamoto could be detrimental to their playoff hopes as they continue to face tough competition in their division.

In conclusion, while Sunday’s game may have ended in a victory for the Royals, concerns about injuries overshadowed any excitement or celebration for fans watching from home or at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers will need to find ways to overcome these challenges if they want to maintain their position as contenders for this year’s World Series title.
