In April, Mon Health System is joining forces with the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation during Donate Life Month. The goal of this partnership is to encourage individuals to register as organ donors and help save lives. With over 100,000 people in the United States waiting for organ transplants and 2,500 in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia alone, there is a urgent need for more organ donors. Unfortunately, 17 people die each day without receiving the transplant they need.

As part of their efforts to promote organ donation, Mon Health System will be hosting flag raising ceremonies throughout the month at its hospitals. These ceremonies will honor the generous act of organ donation and celebrate Donate Life Month. The President and CEO of Mon Health System, David Goldberg, emphasizes the importance of inspiring the community to become organ donors in order to enhance overall wellness.

It’s important for individuals to understand that anyone can be a potential organ donor, regardless of age, race or medical history. It’s crucial to discuss one’s wishes with family and friends and consider registering as an organ donor. One organ donor has the potential to save up to eight lives and improve the lives of over 100 others through tissue donation. To register as an organ donor, individuals can visit CORE.org/register. By becoming an organ donor, individuals can make a lasting impact on someone’s life and help save countless others in need of transplants.
