Oregon dual-threat quarterback Bo Nix had an impressive college career with the Ducks, totaling 8,101 passing yards, 74 passing touchdowns, 744 rushing yards, and 20 rushing scores in just two seasons. He also had a successful high school career where he rushed for 2,112 yards and 34 touchdowns, showcasing his ability to make plays with his legs. Standing at 6-2 and weighing 217 pounds, Nix’s mobility is a valuable asset that the Denver Broncos plan to utilize this season.

While Broncos coach Sean Payton may be hesitant to call designed runs for Nix out of concern for injury, he plans to incorporate the quarterback’s mobility into the offense through play action passes and rollouts. Payton emphasized the importance of having a quarterback who can create plays when things get chaotic on the field, comparing Nix to NFL stars like Steve Young. It’s clear that Nix’s rushing skills set him apart from other quarterbacks on the Broncos’ roster.

In Payton’s offense, previous quarterback Russell Wilson ran the ball 80 times in a single season, showing Payton’s willingness to let QBs use their legs to make plays. While it’s uncertain if Nix will reach that same number of carries, it’s evident that his mobility will be a key factor in the Broncos’ offense when he eventually earns the starting job. Whether it’s in Week 1 or later in the season, Nix’s ability to make plays with his legs will be an essential weapon for Denver under Payton’s coaching.
