The Major League Baseball commissioner’s office has announced plans to discipline umpire Pat Hoberg after an investigation into a possible violation of sports gambling policies. Despite the fact that MLB’s investigation did not uncover any evidence of compromised or manipulated games, the league has determined that discipline was necessary.

Hoberg, 37, who has been a full-time staff member since 2017 and officiated his first major league game in 2014, has chosen to appeal the penalty. As a result, further comments will be withheld until the appeal process is completed.

Prior to his time in the MLB, Hoberg worked in various minor leagues including the Pacific Coast League, Texas League, and Florida State League. He received a perfect grade for calling balls and strikes during Game 2 of the 2022 World Series between the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies. He also officiated numerous postseason games such as the 2018 AL Wild Card Game, a 2019 NL Division Series, a 2020 NL Wild Card Series and more. His experience extends beyond just baseball as he has also worked on various international events like the World Baseball Classic and historic “Field of Dreams Game” in 2021.

MLB continues to investigate this matter while waiting for Hoberg’s appeal to determine the final outcome.
