Ed Abdella, a Mississippian attempting to become the first person from his state to complete the grueling Race Across America, has had to drop out of the race due to a lung infection he contracted while passing through Arizona. Despite his setback, Abdella was able to complete an impressive 682.6 miles before having to withdraw from the competition.

Abdella expressed his gratitude to the sponsors from Meridian who supported him throughout the race and made his participation possible. He also mentioned that he was thankful for the opportunity to raise awareness for Hope Village for Children, a cause that is close to his heart. Although he is no longer able to continue the race, Abdella is encouraging the spirit of giving to continue through at least Monday, June 24, the date he had originally planned to finish the race.

The Race for Hope 2024 will continue to gain support and recognition both statewide and nationally as Abdella continues to advocate for a great cause. For more updates and news, you can subscribe to our daily newsletter. Copyright 2024 WTOK. All rights reserved.
