In July, Miron Construction will begin construction on the Science and Health Sciences Building at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. The project, which has an estimated cost of $245 million, marks Miron’s largest hard bid project to date.

The new building will be a five-story, 330,000-square-foot science and technology learning center that will replace the current University facility. Miron Construction expressed excitement about taking on this significant project and replacing the outdated facility with a modern Science and Health Sciences Building.

The project involves collaboration between UW – Eau Claire and the Mayo Clinic Health System, focusing on education, research, and patient care to enhance healthcare services in northwestern Wisconsin. The new building will house various university programs, including biology, computer science, and geology, among others.

Bidding for the project was extended to April to allow contractors and owners more time to review plans before finalizing proposals. Miron Construction won the bid with a price of $163.3 million, beating out Eau Clara-based Market & Johnson which bid $164.9 million.

Miron Construction will be working with Madison-based Potter Lawson, Chicago-based HOK, and the Department of Administration’s Division of Facilities Development on the project. In preparation for the new Science and Health Sciences Building, UW – Eau Claire demolished Katharine Thomas and Putnam halls in 2022.
