Milan is reportedly looking to strengthen their defense by signing Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite. The Portuguese defender is said to be interested in joining the Rossoneri, but Union Berlin is holding out for a fee of around €18m to let him go. Leite, who is 25 years old, could be a long-term defensive option for Milan.

One of the key reasons Milan is interested in Leite is because he is left-footed, which fills a gap in their squad. He played 32 games last season and has the physical qualities that Milan is looking for in a defender. His good injury record is also a positive aspect that Milan finds appealing.

Leite’s connection to Portuguese compatriot Paulo Fonseca, who is expected to be announced as Milan’s coach, could also play a role in his potential move to the club. He is comfortable playing on either side of a central defensive pairing, but it is likely that Milan would want him on the left side.

Once Paulo Fonseca’s appointment becomes official, deals like this one may start to move forward more rapidly. Milan hopes that bringing in Leite will add quality depth to their defense and strengthen their team for the upcoming season.
