Microsoft has announced a delay in the launch of its new AI-powered feature called Recall. Initially scheduled for release on June 18, the feature is now expected to arrive “in the coming weeks.” Recall was introduced in May as a new functionality integrated into Copilot+ PCs, using AI to create a photographic memory system that allows users to search for previous content across all applications, documents, and websites on the computer.
Security experts raised concerns about potential vulnerabilities in Recall that could put users’ private information at risk. In response, Microsoft has stated that it will make Recall a clearer option and disable it by default. Users will need to log in with Windows Hello to use this feature, which will be postponed for release.
Microsoft initially planned to preview Recall as an exclusive experience for Copilot+ PCs starting on June 18. However, the company has decided to include it in the Windows Insider Program instead. This move allows Microsoft to gather feedback from the community before making Recall widely available. The company emphasized that security is its main priority and that Recall will feature encryption ‘Just in Time,’ requiring decryption with Windows Hello for enhanced security.
By adjusting the release model of Recall and leveraging feedback from the Windows Insider community, Microsoft aims to ensure that the functionality meets its high-quality and safety standards before being rolled out to all Copilot+ PCs. This strategic approach aligns with the company’s Secure Future Initiative (SFI), underscoring its commitment to user security and privacy.
