Microsoft has just announced the hiring of Sam Altman, co-founder and former number one of OpenAI, as part of a new artificial intelligence research team. Altman and other colleagues will join Microsoft to lead this initiative, which aims to build something new and incredible.

Altman expressed his excitement about the opportunity on Twitter, saying “The mission continues” and that he is thrilled to be joining Microsoft. His colleague Greg Brockman also shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating that several other key OpenAI employees will be joining the team.

This news comes after a tumultuous weekend for OpenAI, during which Sam Altman was suddenly fired following a review process by the board of directors. The body cited concerns about his communication style as a reason for their decision, but Altman has since been appointed as interim CEO at OpenAI. Meanwhile, former Twitch boss Emmett Shear has accepted the position as interim number one at OpenAI and plans to launch an independent investigation within 30 days to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Altman’s firing.
