Microsoft has announced a delay in the launch of Recall, the new feature powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) that was originally set to be released on June 18. Recall is a functionality integrated into Copilot+ PCs that uses AI to create a photographic memory system. This feature allows users to search for everything they have seen or done on the computer, making it easy to find previously searched content in any application, document, or website.

The decision to delay the release of Recall was made after concerns were raised by security experts about potential vulnerabilities in the feature that could compromise users’ private information. Microsoft addressed these concerns by announcing that Recall would be made a clearer option and disabled by default. In order to use it, users would need to log in with Windows Hello.

Microsoft has now decided to include Recall in the Windows Insider Program (WIP) instead of being a widely available preview experience for Copilot+ PCs starting on June 18. After receiving feedback from the community about the functionality, Microsoft plans to bring the Recall preview to all Copilot+ PCs. The company stated that they are adjusting the release model of Recall to leverage the experience of the Windows Insider community and ensure that the feature meets their high quality and security standards.

Security is Microsoft’s main priority and they mentioned that Recall will have ‘Just in Time’ encryption, which means that the photographic memory will only be decrypted with Windows Hello.
