The Mets are making a roster change ahead of Wednesday’s game in Philadelphia. Mark Vientos, a 24-year-old outfielder who has been playing at Triple-A Syracuse this season, will be brought up to the big leagues to fill the spot left by Jeff McNeil.
Vientos has hit six home runs, five doubles, and 30 RBI in just 31 games at Triple-A this season, with a batting average of .284 and an OPS of .876. He is expected to play alongside Brett Baty at third base, with Baty struggling at the plate recently and seeing his average drop to .230 and OPS fall to .609 after Tuesday’s game.
Left-hander Joey Lucchesi is also joining the active roster from Syracuse and will get the start on Wednesday against the Phillies. Originally, Adrian Houser was supposed to start but after experiencing discomfort in the bullpen during Tuesday’s game, the decision was made to remove him from the start. Corresponding moves related to these roster changes have not been announced yet.
