Metso, a Finnish company, has assigned Skanska, a Swedish contractor, to construct its new Lokomotion Technology Centre in Lahdesjärvi, Tampere. The project involves the construction of infrastructure and buildings totaling 34,000 sq m in the first phase.
The Lokomotion Technology Centre will serve as a hub for designing, testing and manufacturing technologies, equipment and components for the production of aggregates and sand. Once completed, the facility will cover 66,000 sq m.
The construction of the first phase is set to begin in July with a budget of €99 million. It is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027. Metso has invested €150 million in this first phase and production of Lokotrack track-mounted crushing plants is scheduled to commence upon completion.
Metso’s current site in Hatanpää, Tampere will be phased out as activities shift to the new technology centre in Lahdesjärvi. Metso will eventually vacate the Hatanpää site and buildings once the relocation is complete.
