The Mets are sending starting pitcher Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse, as reported by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The move is aimed at filling Megill’s spot with a reliever, as the team is dealing with a depleted bullpen until Edwin Diaz returns from suspension. The Mets have the option to bring up Christian Scott or Jose Butto to start in place of Megill in the next rotation.

Megill pitched 5.1 innings in Saturday’s game, allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza commented on Megill’s performance, noting that he showed potential with a good fastball and splits, but struggled against the Astros’ strong lineup. Mendoza acknowledged the team’s inability to close out the game effectively.

In his eight starts this season, Megill holds a record of 2-4 with a 5.08 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Despite showing promise at times, Megill’s inconsistent performance has led to his assignment to Triple-A. The Mets are hoping to address their bullpen needs by shuffling their pitching staff and exploring different options for the rotation.
