Meta’s microblogging social network, Threads, recently announced a new feature that will allow users to view replies to their posts on other platforms. Previously, users were unable to see replies to their posts on Threads if they were shared on other platforms like Mastodon. This forced users to switch between platforms constantly to stay updated on responses.
With the new update, users are expected to have fewer “hops” between platforms. However, it is currently not possible to reply to replies directly from Threads. It is expected that this functionality will be implemented in the future. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, mentioned that Threads integration with other social networks will be available in over 100 countries starting today, expanding from the initial availability limited to the United States, Canada, and Japan.
Meta has been transparent about its plans to integrate decentralized social networking protocol ActivityPub into Threads since its launch almost a year ago. Initial testing began in December, and now users in various countries will have access to this new feature. The integration of ActivityPub into Threads will enable users to interact with content from decentralized social networks more seamlessly and could pave the way for further expansion into the decentralized space.
