In response to concerns raised by NOYB, Meta has been issued a warning by the Austrian association. NOYB has called on Meta to obtain explicit consent from users before using their data to train artificial intelligence (AI). According to NOYB, Meta’s proposed changes to their privacy policy would allow them to use user posts, private photos, and internet activity data without explicit consent.

Meta claims that their legitimate interest is in using data for training AI models and developing generative tools, primarily for advertising purposes. However, NOYB argues that user consent should be a priority. The association has called on regulators in several EU countries to intervene and stop Meta’s proposed changes.

NOYB was founded by activist Max Schrems and has previously filed lawsuits against Meta and other tech giants for violating GDPR regulations. Schrems emphasizes that user data protection rights should not be overridden by companies’ interests in using data for advertising or AI training. He criticizes Meta for making the process of denying consent complicated and placing the burden on users to opt out rather than seeking explicit permission.

Overall, NOYB is urging Meta to prioritize user consent and comply with privacy regulations to ensure that data protection rights are upheld. The association is calling on EU regulators to take action and prevent Meta from implementing changes that could compromise user privacy.
