The Ayers Community Outreach INC. in Fort Wayne, Indiana recently hosted a forum called “Men Fighting for Health” with the aim of raising awareness about men’s mental health. This event brought together volunteers from various community organizations such as the Impact Center, New Covenant Worship Center, and Indiana Black Expo, Inc. Joe Ayers, CEO of Ayers Community Outreach and the organizer of this event for over a decade, shared his own experience as a two-time cancer survivor to tie mental health to the common disease of prostate cancer.

Joe Ayers emphasized the importance of communication when facing health issues and highlighted how having a support group and open dialogue with medical professionals played a crucial role in his personal journey. The forum served as a platform to provide educational resources on prostate cancer and mental health for men and their loved ones through the expertise of local doctors and specialists.

The event took place on Wednesday at the Impact Center from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with Joe Ayers expressing optimism about the changing attitudes towards men’s mental health. He noted that there is now a positive shift where men are more willing to seek help and therapy without feeling ashamed.
