Richard Ingram has been welcomed to the Green Bay Packers medical staff for training camp as part of the NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative. The announcement was made by General Manager Brian Gutekunst on Tuesday.
Ingram, who is currently studying at Meharry Medical College with a focus on orthopedics, hails from Shreveport, Louisiana. He previously played outside linebacker/strong safety at Mississippi College, majoring in biology medical science with a minor in psychology. Ingram was also recognized as a 2022 Nth Dimensions Scholar, an organization dedicated to empowering underrepresented minorities and women in the medical field to address health disparities.
The NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative was initiated in 2022 as a collaborative effort between the NFL, the NFL Physicians Society (NFLPS), and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS). The program offers medical students the opportunity to complete a clinical rotation with NFL club medical staff, with the goal of increasing and diversifying the pool of students interested in careers in sports medicine. By expanding the diversity among medical staff in NFL clubs, the initiative aims to make a positive impact on the medical field.
