An international visitor has brought a confirmed case of measles to the United States, potentially exposing others in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The individual visited Hanover, New Hampshire and Dartmouth College campus before traveling through Boston to Amsterdam on June 22. They also used public transportation while infectious in the U.S., putting others at risk of contracting the disease.

The Massachusetts Department of Health and New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services have issued alerts warning residents about the potential exposure. Specific locations and dates where people who are not immune may be at risk for developing measles have been identified, including Dartmouth College campus, Hanover Inn, Hanover Scoops, Lou’s Restaurant and Bakery, the Dartmouth Coach bus line, Logan Airport, and Flight KLM6016 from Boston to Amsterdam.

Massachusetts Public Health Commissioner Dr. Robbie Goldstein emphasized the importance of vaccination to protect against measles, highlighting the increased number of cases and outbreaks worldwide. Health department officials are contacting individuals who may have been at high risk of exposure to the infected traveler. Symptoms of measles typically appear 10 days to two weeks after exposure and may include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash on the skin.
