McPherson College in Kansas has been granted $2.1 million in new funding to establish an educational center for Rural & Community Health Science, thanks to Senator Jerry Moran’s announcement. The funds will support the creation of a new health science program that will offer students specialized training in clinical, administrative, behavioral, or community health.

This initiative is a significant milestone for the college as it marks the first time they have received federal funding through congressionally directed spending. The $2.1 million funding will be used to renovate the school’s science hall to include updated laboratory facilities and technological enhancements. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be allocated for professional development opportunities for students and faculty.

At the funding announcement on June 27, 2024, Senator Jerry Moran and McPherson College President Michael Schneider expressed their enthusiasm for the program. Senator Moran highlighted the importance of training healthcare providers to serve rural areas, stating that the resources allocated to McPherson College will enable them to train more students in various health professions. President Schneider also emphasized the impact of the program on rural communities in Kansas by placing more graduates in these underserved areas.

The establishment of this educational center at McPherson College is a positive step towards improving rural health in Kansas for years to come. By providing specialized training for students and investing in technology and professional development opportunities, this program will contribute significantly to advancing healthcare services in rural communities across the state.
