Nursing is a crucial profession in the healthcare industry, and the need for more nurses has never been greater. McLeod Health, a partner in nursing education in the region, has donated $75,000 to Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) to support their nursing program.
The aging population is one of the reasons why there is an increasing demand for nurses. These individuals typically have more medical needs than younger people, making it essential to have more nurses in hospitals to provide quality care. Tony Derrick, Chief Nursing Officer for McLeod Regional Medical Center, emphasized this point by highlighting the national shortage of nurses and the growing number of baby boomers who are aging. He believes that it is crucial for McLeod to continue working with FDTC to educate nurses to meet these rising demands.
Nurses play a vital role in delivering quality health care by providing patient advocacy, ensuring a safe environment, participating in health policies, and educating patients. The region is fortunate to have a nursing education program at FDTC that allows students to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and prepare for Registered Nurse (RN) boards in just five semesters.
Dr. Jermaine Ford, President of FDTC, expressed his gratitude for McLeod’s partnership and financial support. He believes that this alliance is crucial in ensuring that competent nurses are part of the medical team to deliver quality health care to patients in the region.
