In Eugene, Oregon on Sunday, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a new world record in the 400m hurdles by shaving off just 0.03 seconds from her previous record. The race was one of the fastest in history, with four women clocking times under 53 seconds, but McLaughlin-Levrone still managed to dominate by nearly two seconds.

McLaughlin-Levrone took the lead from the start and never looked back. She surged ahead of her competitors, including Anna Cockrell who finished second in a personal best time of 52.64, and Jasmine Jones who finished third in a personal best time of 52.77. With her strong performance, McLaughlin-Levrone crossed the finish line with a commanding lead.

This isn’t the first time McLaughlin-Levrone has broken records at the US Trials. In 2021, she set a world record of 51.90 in the 400m hurdles, which she later lowered to 51.46 to win the Olympic gold in Tokyo. She continued her record-breaking streak in 2022, setting a new world record of 51.41 at the US Championships before winning the world title in Oregon with a time of 50.68.

Hayward Field in Eugene has been a lucky venue for McLaughlin-Levrone, where she has set four out of her five world records. With her impressive performances, McLaughlin-Levrone continues to demonstrate her dominance in the 400m hurdles
