The city of Agde, situated on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, recently found itself at the center of a scandal that involved the mayor Gilles d’Ettore and a local fortune teller, as reported by BBC. D’Ettore, a former police officer turned politician, was under investigation for allegations of corruption. Meanwhile, Sophia Martinez, a fortune teller known for her supposed ability to communicate with the dead, faced charges of fraud.

The scandal came to light when it was discovered that D’Ettore had used public funds to purchase extravagant luxuries for Martinez in exchange for her services as a fortune teller. Over four years, Martinez managed to manipulate and deceive D’Ettore both in person and over the phone, receiving gifts such as luxury vacations and home renovations in return.

Martinez was able to take advantage of D’Ettore’s position as mayor and his desire for personal gain. Locals speculated that beyond money, the scandal may have involved sexual favors as well. Despite this speculation, no evidence has been presented to support this theory.

D’Ettore’s lawyer Jean Marc Darrigade commented on the scandal and emphasized how easily his client had been manipulated due to his position in politics. Currently, both D’Ettore and Martinez are being held in custody with Martinez being placed in solitary confinement after an attack in prison. The scandal continues to shock and intrigue residents of Agde.
