In Maui, Malama I Ke Ola Health Center has been facing major IT issues that have affected thousands of patients. The center abruptly closed earlier this month due to the problems and finally reopened on Wednesday with limited services. Patients are left in the dark and seeking answers about the situation.

The health center serves nearly 12,000 patients and offers medical, dental, and behavioral health services. Despite the reopening, management has not provided a clear explanation of the ongoing IT issues. Patients received a text message on May 7th stating that the closure was due to IT problems, but little information has been shared since then. Concerns about personal information being compromised due to the new electronic health record system launch on April 20th have been raised.

Patients are stressed about the lack of access to their medical information and the potential need to backtrack on record-keeping once the computer issues are resolved. The uncertainty surrounding the situation has left many worried about the security of their personal data. Hawaii News Now attempted to speak with management for further information but were told to wait until the following day for an update.
