On Sol 4225, the focus of remote science activities was on the “Mammoth Lakes 2” drill sample, which was delivered to CheMin for analysis. Meanwhile, observations of change detection using Mastcam were initiated on “Walker Pass 2” and “Finch Lake.”
Remote science operations on “Whitebark Pass,” “Quarry Peak,” “Broken Finger Peak,” and “Shout of Relief Pass” were successful. The Navcam image revealed a rough surface of “Horsetail Falls,” with a dark rubbly material stripe near the top right of center of the light colored slab. This area showcases diversity in bedrock textures and is named after a distinctive waterfall that flows into Agnew Lake, visible from the June Lake Loop road.
Science block observations included a survey of dust devils and atmospheric measurements. In the upcoming plan, SAM will complete its initial analysis, and based on the results from SAM and CheMin, the team will make a decision on whether to conduct further chemistry at this location or proceed with the journey up Mount Sharp. ChemCam RMI will capture an 11×1 mosaic of the nearby channel floor to investigate interesting color variations.
