Mark Zuckerberg is excited about Meta’s latest augmented-reality prototype, which he teased during an interview with YouTuber Kane Sutter. The upcoming “full holographic” glasses are expected to be showcased at Meta’s annual Connect conference, although they may not be available for purchase for some time. While the first version of Meta’s “true” AR glasses, known internally as Orion, may not be the most stylish, with thicker frames to accommodate the AR technology, Zuckerberg assured that they will still resemble glasses rather than a headset like Meta’s Quest or Apple’s new Vision Pro.

Meta’s chief technology officer, Andrew Bosworth, previously expressed that the upcoming AR glasses could be the most advanced technology in their domain. With advancements in AI and improved functionality without requiring full holograms, even simpler AR products will have significant consumer appeal sooner. Over the years, Meta has invested billions in its Reality Labs division, which focuses on developing advanced products such as VR and AR wearables and metaverse software supporting them. Zuckerberg emphasized that it will take time for these products to deliver substantial returns but that Meta remains committed to the development of cutting-edge technologies within the AR and VR space.
