Manchester United has recently announced the signing of Dominique Janssen, a former Arsenal defender, who has agreed to a three-year contract with the option of an additional season. Janssen, a 29-year-old Netherlands international, spent four seasons with Arsenal before moving to Wolfsburg in 2019. During her time at Wolfsburg, she won two league titles and made appearances in the Champions League finals in 2020 and 2023, although her team was defeated on both occasions.

United manager Marc Skinner praised Janssen for her winning mentality and extensive playing experience, emphasizing how she will be an important addition to the team. He stated that “Janssen’s experience and success in both domestic and international competitions will undoubtedly make her a valuable asset to the team.”

United’s decision to sign Janssen comes after a series of injuries to key defenders last season, including Gabby George. Additionally, the club has seen the departure of captain Katie Zelem and forward Lucia Garcia. Goalkeeper Mary Earps has also left United to join Paris St-Germain. Despite these changes, United is actively seeking reinforcements and is hopeful of securing Elisabeth Terland from Brighton on a free transfer.

Janssen expressed her excitement about joining such a prestigious club like Manchester United, stating that it is a proud moment for her to return to the English league and contribute to the team’s success. She added that “I am thrilled about this opportunity and look forward to working with my new teammates.”

Overall, United’s signing of Dominique Janssen represents a significant move to strengthen their squad and improve their performance in the upcoming season. With Janssen’s experience and success in both domestic and international competitions, she will undoubtedly be an asset not only on but off the field as well.
